Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. For those who haven't known about it may think it is a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief time in the city did not last long. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she was able to have. She admitted in an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. When I grew out of my male partners, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school which encouraged her to go in that direction. Teacher who recommended she try to find a role in school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual production. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been involved in more than 60 shows, large and small. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor during the season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
